recap

Easter came and went without me even realizing it and after 5 whole days, work free, I found myself sitting back at my desk. The only positive being it was already Wednesday which meant a mere 2 and half days to survive until the weekend.

Easter weekend was naturally a lazy and food filled one. Luckily for us the sun shone [a lot] so much so my skin bore the signs with a few pesky strap marks seeping onto my skin. Easter Sunday was spent moving from one sun soaked chair to another on Yaya's patio, while the men of the family prepare fire, stuffed enough meat to feed an army onto skewers and argued about how to best cook the souvla!

Monday we took a trip to Limassol to see the captain Harry used to work with and is wonderful wife, Maria, who despite her best efforts, did not persuade me to take home a puppy. I'm not sure how I resisted when you scroll down and see how gorgeous they are.

Since then life has returned to normal. Working takes up most of our time and Harry is as usual, pursuing world domination through the means of Graffiti - while I mock, his ambition and drive is something that astounds me continuously and makes me feel also somewhat proud.

So now, it's Tuesday evening and im counting down to the weekend, and the bank holiday Tuesday which crops up next; a wonderful thing, which just so happens to be my day of birth. Fingers crossed for 30 degrees sunshine so I can use the "its my birthday" line to guilt Harry into taking me to the beach.

Millie update #3

Millie got fatter. Which is a good thing because before she was very skinny. I think a combination of new food and a growth spurt has brought on this change and she looks so much healthier now. She has settled into our new home really well, she loves sunbathing on the new balcony!! I think it helped that when we moved in she still had her bed and the smells she was used to. And obviously anywhere me and harry are, she will love.

I cant believe it is a year since we go her. Seriously time flies but I am so glad we didn't let her go to the shelter. she has totally become part of our lives and I couldn't imagine not having her now. Plus, im not lonely when Harrys off on his work trips.

blackout

While most of you are settling into the long easter weekend, here its just another Saturday/Sunday. Greek Orthodox celebrate easter next weekend so I have to wait a little longer for my 4 days off. However I am getting into the easter spirit, scoffing down my first cadburys cream egg of the season. I have forgotten how ridiculously yummy they are. It was gone in a couple of seconds. Now either they are getting smaller, or I need to eat a bit slower.

News from our lovely island this week....well on Wednesday we woke up without electricity, which made getting ready for work a more interesting process. In fact the whole island awoke to a blackout thanks to the shutdown of generators in Larnaca, which since the explosion at the power station last year, have been keeping the island ticking over. Its a rather long and complicated story as to how we are actually getting power here on the island, one that I will not even try to explain (but feel free to read the article from the Cyprus Mail, here). To be honest I dont know how we are still in this situation between light and possible dark, but the blackout on Wednesday just shows how unpredictable it is. Fingers crossed we wont be enduring the daily power cuts we suffered last summer....I dont think I can survive without the air conditioning.

Especially since its already started warming up here. This week has been so hot, that the boots have been pushed to the back of the wardrobe and I am even contemplating a pedicure incase the sandals make an outing sooner than expected. And considering its April, 30 degrees and 3pm is kind of hot lets say. Maybe this is a sign we are going to have a longer, hotter, dryer summer. I can already hear the beach calling..........Or maybe we will go the way of England and it will rain........lets hope for my sake its the first one.

a lot can happen in 3 weeks

One thing is certain; once me and Harry decide to do something, we hit the ground running so to speak, well there's not time like the present I guess!

That being said, we are officially moved into our new apartment. I think the turnaround time was about a week; from viewing the new place, to giving our notice at our old place, packing, organising a mountain of things and moving into the new place. Probably the most chaotic and stressful week we have had since we moved to Cyprus. I mean really. Who's stupid idea was it to move that quickly.....oh yes....ours!

To make things worse, Harry was sick and ultimately I got sick. I do not recommend packing and cleaning whilst suffering with a mammoth cold. Especially when you realise you packed all the toilet roll, tissues and napkins and have nothing to use for a runny nose.....

And as if that wasn't enough, a small mini drama ensued when we lost our only set of keys to the new apartment down the small gap between the floor and the lift in the new building. I think my heart stopped as I watched the keys drop in slow motion down the lift shaft. We had been given the keys by the new landlord early so we could start moving our stuff. Officially we had the apartment from saturday, but we had to be out of the old by 4pm saturday so we started moving bits mid week. Unfortunately in the daze of stress, sleepy, and sickness this event occurred. And of course it occurred on Friday night at 11pm!!! Excellent. We were meant to stay in the new place on Friday night, but obviously that plan went out the window, so we spent one last night in our empty apartment, with no sheets, a duvet and dog to keep us smiling through the stress of how to get our keys back.

8 am Saturday morning the lift man came to our rescue, retrieved our keys and so we spent the morning frantically clearing the old apartment and cleaning. Phew.

Now we can put this nightmare behind us, we are moved in and I think I have found a place for everything. Multiple Ikea trips later and we have some new sparkly things to make the new apartment even nice. While its smaller than the last place, its perfectly formed and we still have a spare room so we are open for summertime bookings! And we have a rather lovely balcony which Harry believes he can get a pool on.....im more dubious.

It's a work in progress and a few more things to get sorted, but as you can see, we are getting there.
