We have worked pretty hard this year and while our holiday wish list consisted of Barcelona, Croatia and New York, we concluded it was better to make the most of the fact we live on a mediterranean island. So we booked a villa in a small fishing village, Latchi, the furthest point east on the island and set off in the car with Lauren Louise Taylor for a few days of complete and utter relaxation.
Latchi is probably the smallest place i've ever been in my life; with one main road, a handful of restaurants and bars and more fishing boats than residents! I'd heard a lot of good stuff about Latchi; with its beautiful and quiet beaches and huge national forest its a little bit of heaven on earth.
Our villa was set up on a hill, the only way up being some seriously narrow and windy roads that I wasnt sure we would actually get up in our little hire car - and so steep I felt like we were going to go backwards at one point. So after a 3 hour drive from Nicosia, with a stop off in Limassol to leave millie with some friends for a doggy holiday, we got to the top of the hill found our villa and did the only thing appropriate after a long and hot journey.....jumped in the pool!
The villa, recently built and shiny and modern was amazing, with a perfectly positioned pool to take in the amazing views of Latchi fishing harbor and the mountains in the distance. I think I fell in love with that place as soon as we got there and to be perfectly honest I would be happy to live there for the rest of my life, as a fisherman's wife peeling prawns all day.
So all week was spent lounging by the pool, practicing hand stands and harry trying to teach me how to dive which was a complete and utter fail. We went exploring the little beaches hidden away through tree lined footpaths and almost got lost in the national forest at sundown. We ate, we slept, we watched some of the most beautiful sunsets i've ever seen and spent the nights lying on a sun loungers waiting for shooting stars to appear in the sky.
Nicosia is a bit of a let down after coming back from Latchi. Maybe one day we will live on top of that hill. For now I will spend my days re-living it through the photographs.
